Happy Holidays!

Wishing everyone a happy holiday!
Enjoy the break, rest up, and I'll see you next year!

Work over break

  • Test Reflections will be due the Thursday we get back, 1-8.
  • The Gravity Investigation Lab is due Monday, 1-5, end of day if you haven't already finished.  We'll be moving on in class, so time will be limited.  Plan accordingly.

All the MOP quizzes have been entered.  If you're still finishing the last few, get them in before we take the test, and don't forget to click TURN IN at the top of the page.  I'll update the MOP Quiz assessment grade when you do.

Also, F period grades are finished except for the most recent Ramp Lab.  Working on the E and D now.

grading grading grading....more grading

Grading grading grading...
Weekend marathon grading session starts now!  I got a lot done this week, but I still have more to do. The most recent labs are still in progress, and I'll start checking through and updating the MOP quizzes now that they should be finished.  (If you're not done MOPing, keep working and let me know if you get stuck).  I'll post on the blog again when everything is caught up (however fleeting that may be).

Newton's Laws Test Tuesday & Wednesday
Heads up:  Test coming Tuesday for EF and Wednesday for D periods.
Newton's Laws: Chapters 4, 5, and 6  (skip section 5.5 Pressure)

Since we did so much work on the MOPs, I assigned very little book work, but that's a great way to study.  Review questions at the back of each chapter is a great way to study concepts.  Plug 'n' Chugs and Think 'n' Solves are a great way to practice problem solving.

Have a great weekend!

Vocab Quiz, the Portal, and MOP

Vocab quiz Wednesday (tomorrow)

,,,for all periods.  We're looking at key terms from chapters 4 and 5, but we're not covering pressure and pascals.
CLICK BELOW for...
We'll wait on chapter 6 until we've had a chance to talk about Newton's 3rd law.

Don't check your average.  Check your assignments.

Its that time of the quarter again, progress reports are coming up Friday.  I'm going to ask you to do something slightly counter-intuitive

Don't check your average.

At least, not yet.  Definitely look at the assignments and make sure nothing is missing, but wait to check the average until Friday.  I say that because I'm still grading the labs we did recently and catching up with all of the MOP quizzes you've completed.  Last weekend I put in all the assignments that were missing so you would know right away, but there are several more that I need to grade.  This causes the average to do funky things until everything is graded.  Friday will be a much better reflection of where you stand.  We'll have a few labs and a quiz or two posted by then.  In the meantime, make sure you're not missing anything.  If you are, check the google classroom, then check with me.  If you've updated something since last weekend, feel free to send me an email and let me know.  I like having reminders of when things get updated (a lot of the forms we use don't automatically send notifications).

A quick key for looking at your assignments:
MIS - the assignment is missing as of last weekend and counts as a zero until turned in.
No Grd - the assignment has not been graded yet and does not count toward or against your grade yet.

MOP Quizzes

MOP quizzes NL1-9, and 12 should be completed by this Friday, 12-12.  Put the gold success codes in the document you started on google classroom.  Click TURN IN when you've finished all ten.
Kudos to those of you who are already finished!

If you need access to a computer that plays nice with Adobe Shockwave, my room is available before and after school.  You could even come in during other periods if we're not using them, just ask.

Trouble pasting graphs?

If you're having trouble copying and pasting the graphs you made in google spreadsheets into the document, you're not alone.  Its a little finicky.

Two things you can try:

Web Clipboard

  • Select the graph
  • Ctrl+C to copy
  • Paste using the Edit --> web clipboard instead of Ctrl+V

Screenshot

  • Start menu --> snipping tool
  • Click and drag over the area you want
  • Copy and paste that image of the graph into the doc.

Analyzing Lab Data & Practice Problems

All periods:
NL2 Practice Problems 1-4 due Tuesday, 12-2

  • CLICK HERE for a video explaining #1 (which we did in class)
  • Write out your work in your notebook.
  • Check your answers on Its Learning --> N2: Force and Acceleration --> NL2 Practice Problems
  • Every problem has the same approach:
    1. FBD: Free-Body force Diagram
    2. Fnet: find the net force, or at least set up an equation for it
    3. Fnet = ma:  apply Newton's 2nd law to solve for whatever you need.

Force, Mass, & Acceleration Lab due Wednesday, 12-3
Finish analyzing the data for the lab individually.  Your group will have the same data, but you will analyze and turn in your own copy.  Follow the instructions posted on Google Classroom.
Turn in your lab by Wednesday night, 11:59pm.
